four corners

数にちなんだ corner つながりで連想したのが、four corners である。「すべての地域（領域）」という意味で、the four corners of the earth は 「世界のすみずみ」ということになる。

旧約聖書のイザヤ書には次のような一節がある。

- And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
(King James Version)

雑学的知識だが、アメリカ合衆国には、唯一４つの州が一点で交わるポイントがあり、Four Corners と呼ばれている。ユタ、コロラド、ニューメキシコ、アリゾナの境がここで接している。

Wikipedia の次の項目には、ここにある The Four Corners Monument とその周囲の写真も載っているが、小さくてあまりよくわからない。実際にはどんな雰囲気のところなのだろうか。
