「失言」の英語さまざま [ニュースと英語]
安倍内閣の閣僚が述べた失言について前回書いたが、一連の記事の本文や見出しには、「失言」を意味する単語・表現がいろいろ出てきて参考になるので、列挙してみよう。
このうち faux pas は以前ちょっと触れたことがある。
以下は余談だが、私は、政府や内閣といえば何でもかんでも批判、という立場を取るものではないが、最近のゴタゴタを見ると、安倍総理は、重みというか、統率力が欠けていると思わざるを得ない。
自分が学校で学んでいた時、また社会人になってからのことを考えてみても、組織とは単なる自由放任や「仲良しクラブ」では駄目で、やはり睨みのきく人がいた方が締まるものだと感じている。あくまで日本社会についての一般論だが。
「仲良しクラブ」といえば、ある記事にはこんな表現があった。
crony は a close friend, companion という意味で、 cronyism だと the situation in which people in power give jobs to their friends ということになる。
