ambulance chaser, steeplechase

前回の chaser からの連想で短い続きである。steeplechase 「競馬の障害競争、陸上競技の3000メートル障害走」という単語がある。私がこの単語を知ったのもこれまたジャズで、同名のレコードのレーベルによってである。

もうひとつ、ambulance chaser は「事故の被害者に訴訟を起こすようけしかけて自分の仕事にする弁護士」。救急車の後を追っかけるとは、いかにもそれらしい。

私は弁護士についての言葉として覚えたが、いくつかの辞書を見るとマスコミについても使うようだ。
