template 「基本パターン」「モデル」「ひながた」 (「007 ゴールドフィンガー」） [007 ジェームズ・ボンド]
雨とあって、家で「007 ゴールドフィンガー」のＤＶＤを観た。そのあとで、前回書いた「カスタマーレビュー学習」の実例を、とアマゾンでこの映画について読んでみたところ、目にとまったのが template 「ひながた」を使った文だった。

007の映画がシリーズ franchise として成功した背景には、初期の３作が続編ごとにおもしろくなっていった（と受けとめられた）ことがあるだろう。続篇が拍子抜けの期待はずれだと尻すぼみになって続かない。この第３作「ゴールドフィンガー」は大当たりし、シリーズの定着に重要な役割を果たした。私も観るのはこれで何度目になるだろうか。
この作品は、シリーズの「お約束のパターン」を確立させたものといわれている。Amazon.co.uk のカスタマーレビューにもそうしたことが書かれていて、そこで使われていたのが、ワープロソフトなどの「定型書式」として日本語でもおなじみになった、この template という言葉だ。
強勢は第1音節にあるので、日本語の「テンプレート」のように「レー」に置くと通じない。語中の a は /ei/ またはあいまい母音 schwa で発音される。
イギリスのアマゾンにあったカスタマーの文をそのまま実例としてあげるのはまずいかもしれないので、他のサイトを調べてみた。
Wikipedia は、「ゴールドフィンガー」が築いた「テンプレート」がどんなものか、また、去年封切られた第23作「スカイフォール」 Skyfall でもオマージュされたこの作品のインパクトを簡潔に説明している。少し長いが引用しよう。

私自身は以前書いたように第２作の「ロシアより愛をこめて」 From Russia with Love の方が好みなので、「ゴールドフィンガー」での路線変更は残念だが、この作品がなければ長寿シリーズとはならなかっただろう。良くも悪くもシリーズを代表する重要作だ。
このあと「女王陛下の007」やティモシー・ダルトンの主演作など一部の例外をのぞけばずっとこの路線が続く。現在のダニエル・クレイグになって、ようやく再度の転換が図られたのはよく知られている。
