gofer 「パシリ」「使い走り」「雑用係」

先日取り上げた legman には「使い走り」という訳語が辞書に載っているが、同じ意味を持つのが gofer である。こちらは俗語なので、いま風の日本語でいえば「パシリ」といったところだろうか。

英語の辞書には、次のような定義が見つかる。

- a person whose job is to do various small and usually boring jobs for other people

- someone whose job is to be sent to get and carry things such as messages, drinks, etc. for other people in a company

この単語でおもしろいと思ったのは由来である。go for ...「～を取りに行く」「～をしにいく」から来ているそうだ。
