「ねじれ国会」と twisted Diet、hung parliament など [日本のニュース]
「決められない政治」について前回書いた流れで、「ねじれ国会」と英語表現についても短く書いておくことにする。
日本では去年の参議院選挙まで続いた「ねじれ国会」は、divided Diet とか twisted Diet、あるいは split Diet という表現がネットで見つかる。
ただ、こうした表現をポンと出されて、「２つの院で多数党が違う」ことを指すとわかってもらえるのだろうか。やはり、状況を補足説明した方が親切だと思う。
ウェブ上の英文の実例をいくつか引用しよう。

「ねじれ国会」のために「決められない政治」という状況が起きるのは望ましくない、という声があった。確かに政治の停滞は困ることだが、一方で、それを突き詰めていくと、、２つの院で常に同じ党が多数党でなければならない、ということになりはしないか、と思う。それによって議論が十分に尽くされないまま政治が行われるようなことがあれば、それはそれで民主主義の理念に反することにならないだろうか。
少し前に「日本も２大政党制の時代か」と言われたが、その時も、２大政党制を無批判に善とする考えが背景にあるような感じがして、違和感を持っていた。政治は複雑怪奇な世界ではあるだろうが、だからといって物事を単純化して考えていいというものでもあるまい、と素人ながら考えてしまう。
