mea culpa, my bad, peccavi 「ごめんなさい!」

- Afterwards former Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama complained that Abe's statement did not clearly reflect or embrace the spirit of his historic 1995 statement that serves as the gold standard of Japanese mea culpa. Abe seems in a rush to turn the page on the past before it has been fully recognized.

英語圏の辞書にある説明を抜き書きしよう。

- When you make a mea culpa, you're admitting "I did it. I'm guilty!" It's a way of saying you were wrong.
This is a Latin phrase that simply means "through my fault." So when you make a mea culpa, you're acknowledging that you did something wrong and apologizing for it. This term sounds fancy and official, but it's also a bit of an old-fashioned concept.
(Vocabulary.com)

- (humorous) something that you say in order to admit that something is your fault
'Tim, do you know why the back door was unlocked when I came home?' 'Mea culpa. I'm sorry - it won't happen again.'
(Cambridge Idioms Dictionary)

さらに、

- My fault, due to my error; my bad.
Synonyms my bad peccavi
Etymology From the Latin phrase mea culpa (“through my fault”), from mea (“my, mine”) and culpa (“fault”) in the ablative
(Wiktionary)

このように my badpeccavi という同義語があげられている。前者はアメリカの俗語で、日本語の「オレが悪かった!」と同じような感じでおもしろい。後者は知らない単語だったので辞書を引いたら、これまたラテン語由来であった。/peka:vi/, /pekeivi/ また /pekeivai/ という複数の発音記号が載っている。

- plural peccavis.
a confession of guilt or sin.
Origin 1500-10; < Latin: literally, I have sinned, perfect 1st person singular of peccare to go wrong
(Dictionary.com)
