alt-right 「オルタナ右翼」とトランプ新政権 [アメリカ政治]
トランプ氏が予想外の支持を集め、さらには次期大統領に選ばれるに及んで動向が注目されているのが alt-right と呼ばれる差別主義的な新右翼だ。先ごろ発表されたオックスフォード辞典の「今年の言葉」選定の候補にもなった（最終的に１位にはならなかったが）。alt は alternative の略である。
つい先日もこの単語がメディアに踊った。信奉者たちが集会で「ハイル・トランプ！」とヒトラーのナチス式敬礼をしたことは日本でも報じられた。

In the video, Richard Spencer, an alt-right leader, told a conference that America belonged to white people, whom he described as "children of the sun". （中略）

Oxford 辞典のサイトにある今年の Word of the Year の記事には、最終選考に残った候補の一覧 shortlist にこの言葉の説明が載っているが、より具体的にイメージがつかめる Wikipedia の記述を引用しよう。

白人至上主義、反イスラム、反フェミニズム、などを特徴とする反主流右翼で、確かにトランプ氏とイメージが重なる。インターネットを活用しているというので、その点は日本の「ネトウヨ」に似ているというべきか。
その活動の勢いに火をつけたのがトランプ氏だと言われてきたが、本人は距離を置くような発言を最近行っている。

この発言には、最初の引用に出てきた alt-right の指導者スペンサー氏からさっそく下記のような不満の声が出た。トランプ氏が現実路線に転じたら大勢の人が胸をなでおろす一方で、「結局は彼もウソツキだった」と黙っていない人たちが出てくるだろう。そんな反発の文字通り最右翼となるのが「オルタナ右翼」ではないだろうか。なお記事のタイトルにある bamboozle は辞書を見ると「当惑させる」「だます、ペテンにかける」という意味である。

アメリカの政治潮流といえば、ブッシュ政権を牛耳った「ネオコン」たちが記憶に新しいが、alt-right は政権内部から出たものではない、というより、まだ政権自体が発足していない。また上記の説明にあるように、確固たる政治思想に基づいたものでもないという。だから直ちにこの２つを並べて論じられるものではなさそうだ。
しかし選挙戦を仕切って功労者となり、新政権で chief strategist および senior counselor に任命されたスティーブ・バノン Steve Bannon 氏は「オルタナ右翼」系のウェブサイトを主宰していた（人を外見で判断してはいけないが、いかにもクセのありそうな風貌の持ち主である）。
一方でトランプ氏は、共和党主流派や女性の登用を決めるなど現実路線に沿うような動きを見せている。選挙戦での過激発言は確固たる信念に基づいたものというより、「人気取り」が目的だったという見方もできるだろう。ビジネスマン出身とあって、大統領になってもその時々の「ディール」で事を進めればいい、ということかもしれない。
しかし大統領は独裁者ではないのだから、すべてを掌握できるとは限らない。政権の内部で権力争いが起きるのは古今東西の常だ。そうなった場合、どの勢力が主導権を握るのだろうか。
