flat top 「航空母艦」「角刈り」 （北朝鮮情勢をめぐり緊張高まる） [ニュースと英語]
北朝鮮が再度の核実験やミサイル発射を行うのではとの見方が出る中、アメリカは空母の艦隊を派遣して緊張が高まっている。英語の面で（無理やりではあるが）双方に関係づけることができる単語として頭に浮かんだのが flattop だ。
てっぺんが平らな、ということだが、「航空母艦」、および「角刈り」を意味し、後者はキム・ジョンウンの独特のヘアスタイルに使っていた例がある。
flat と top の２語にしたり、間にハイフンを入れる表記もある。

インフォーマルな言葉のためか、ニュースで「航空母艦」を示す場合は aircraft carrier を使うのが普通だが、記事のあとの方で flattop を使って言い換えた例などがある。
