hazing 「新人いじめ」

このところ baptism of fire 「初めての試練」や live and learn 「何事も経験だ」といった表現を紹介してきたが、さらに連想したのが hazing である。新入生など”新入り”をいじめることを指す。

何で知ったのか覚えておらず、手製の学習ノートを見返しても実例などは見当たらなかったので、あらためて辞書を引いてみた。

- 1 (主に米・カナダ)（新入生・新来者などを）いたずらしてからかう、いじめる（英 rag）
2 (主に海事)（水夫に）不必要な（嫌な）仕事を課していじめる、こき使う
