- The elbow bump the two women gave each other when they arrived at that vaunted spot is a moment you will see replayed again and again -- because of what it means for so many. And kudos to Biden for acknowledging the moment right at the start of his speech: "Madame Speaker. Madame Vice President. No president has ever said those words from this podium. No president has ever said those words. And it's about time."
("Hits and misses from Biden's speech to Congress" CNN April 29, 2021)

ここにあるように、称賛を与える対象が人の場合は to、行為なら for で表せばいいことになる。

このほか、読んだ本で拾って英語学習ノートにメモしていた実例も転記しよう。

- She wants to get the kudos for this job.
(From Russia with Love by Ian Fleming)

- There is certainly kudos in having a Western woman on your arm, but Western women are known to have opinions, to be neither obedient nor subservient.
(People Who Eat Darkness by Richard Lloyd Parry)

続いて英語圏の辞書から定義や用例である。なお発音は /ˈkjuːdɒs/ だが、ほかに /ˈkuː.doʊz/、/ˈkuː.doʊs/ も辞書に載っている。

- UNCOUNTABLE NOUN
Kudos is admiration or recognition that someone or something gets as a result of a particular action or achievement.
...a new hotel chain that has won kudos for the way it treats guests. [+ for]
Synonyms: prestige, regard, honour, praise
(COBUILD Advanced English Dictionary)

- the state of being admired and respected for being important or for doing something important
He acquired kudos just by appearing on television.
(LDOCE)

- the admiration and respect that goes with a particular achievement or position
the kudos of playing for such a famous team
(OALD)

冒頭に書いたように、この単語は -s で終わっているが複数ということではなく、不可算名詞である。そこで many kudos* ではなく much kudos としなくてはならない。英語圏の辞書に次のような注が載っていた。

- Usage
Kudos comes from Greek and means ‘praise’. Despite appearances, it is not a plural form. This means that there is no singular form kudo and that the use of kudos as a plural, as in the following sentence, is incorrect: he received many kudos for his work (correct use is he received much kudos for his work)
(Oxford Dictionaries)

しかし、次のようなおもしろい記述もあった。少し長いが引用しよう。

- In its earliest use, the word referred to the prestige or renown that one gained by having accomplished something noteworthy. The sense meaning "praise given for achievement" came about in the 1920s. As this later sense became the predominant one, some English speakers, unaware of the word's Greek origin, began to treat the word as a plural count noun, inevitably coming up with the back-formation kudo to refer to a single instance of praise. For the same reason, when kudos is used as a subject you may see it with either a singular or plural verb.
(Merriam-Webster.com)

つまり、kudos からの逆成により、本来はないはずの kudo という形も見られることがあるという。言葉が理屈だけで使われるとは限らないという例になっているともいえそうだ。
