英語になった「班長」 (honcho)

いずれも以前取り上げた中国語由来の gung ho やアラビア語からの the mother of all... のように、戦争は外国語の単語や表現が取り入れられるきっかけとなってきたようだ。日本語も例外ではない。比較的有名なのは、「班長」に由来する honcho だろうか。

今回辞書を見るまで、この単語が organize, supervise や be in charge of, be the leader of という意味の動詞としても使われることは知らなかった。
