life-size cardboard cutout 「等身大のパネル」 [単語・表現]
引き続き、異文化理解についての本 The Culture Map からの表現メモである。著者がレクチャーに招かれたハイネケン社の一室は、ビールを持つお姉さんの life-size cardboard cutout が並び、まるでスポーツバーの雰囲気だったという。
ビールも、ついでに女性も実物だったらなお良いのに、と思ったのは完全に私のオヤジ的発想であるが。

cutout（あるいはハイフンの入った cut-out）は「切り抜き、くり抜き」また「切り抜いたものの形・人型」という意味だが、簡単そうで意外と自分からは出てこない単語ではないかと思い、取り上げてみたしだいである。

そうしたサイトにある宣伝文句を見ていてたら、collapsible strut という言葉があったので、ついでに引用しておこう。パネルのうしろにつけて立つようにする「折りたたみ式の突っ張り」のことである。
