cold case 「未解決事件」「迷宮入りの犯罪」 [ニュースと英語]
- The book, by Canadian author Rosemary Sullivan, based its findings on a cold case team led by a former FBI agent, which featured on the CBS News program 60 Minutes in January.
But shortly after publication, there was a significant backlash by Jewish groups, historians and independent researchers who criticised the cold case team’s conclusion.
On Tuesday, a 69-page refutation by six Dutch historians and academics said the cold case team’s findings “does not hold water”.
("Anne Frank: Dutch publisher recalls book on diarist’s betrayal after critical report" The Guardian, March 23, 2022)
- a case (= a series of events investigated by the police) that has not been solved:
The Police Department began using interns last September to take a fresh look at old, unsolved murder cases, also known as cold cases.
A cold case unit was formed specifically to review and reinvestigate all of the department's unsolved killings, according to police.
(Cambridge Dictionary)
- an unsolved criminal investigation (as of a homicide or abduction) that has stopped being actively pursued because of a lack of evidence
The case is pursued diligently by various detectives, but eventually abandoned and filed away among other cold cases.
(Merriam-Webster.com)
The Betrayal of Anne Frank: A Cold Case Investigation" という英語版もあり、今回の表現がタイトルの一部に使われている。
