capillary 「毛細血管」

フレドリック・ブラウンのＳＦ短編 The Star Mouse （邦題「星ねずみ」）にあった単語について続ける。難しげではあるが日常生活で使う「毛細（血）管」を表す英語が capillary である。

小型ロケットを製作している学者が、爆発する恐れのある管を扱っているという場面である。capillary を辞書を見ると、英和辞典はともかく、英語の辞書はやはり難しそうな単語が並んでいるものが多いが、外国人向けの学習辞典を中心に、もう少し親しみやすい説明をしているものもある。
