close shave 「深ぞり」「危機一髪、命拾い」 （「007 ゴールドフィンガー」） [007 ジェームズ・ボンド]
前回紹介した映画「ゴールドフィンガー」の場面には、敵側の女がジェームズ・ボンドに対して close shave という言葉を言うところがある。「007名セリフ集」といった海外のサイトもこぞって採用している。

女は、ボンドのひげそりあとを拳銃で撫でるようにして、

close shave とは、文字通りには「（ひげの）深ぞり」という意味である。初代ボンドのショーン・コネリー Sean Connery は大変毛深い。いやでも目につくのが胸毛だが、この場面でのひげそりあとも、青々（というか、黒々）している。
そしてもうひとつ、close shave には、「間一髪で危機や災難を逃れること」という意味がある。
敵側の女も、単純にボンドの濃いひげそりあとに感心しているのではなく、007が危ない目と隣合わせのスパイであることにひっかけて言っているもので、だからこそ「名セリフ集」に取り上げられるものとなったのだろうと想像する。
なお、007の最新作「スカイフォール」 Skyfall には、ダニエル・クレイグのジェームズ・ボンドが、同僚の女性にひげを剃ってもらうシーンがあり、ネットで close shave として紹介されていた。
同じような意味を持つのが close call や narrow escape で、“That was close.” も、「危ないところだった」「際どかった」ということになる。なおこれらの close の語尾は /s/ であり、濁らない。
