Man up! 「男なら、男らしいところを見せろ！」 [辞書に載っていない表現]
アメリカ情報当局による個人情報収集を告発したスノーデン氏がインタビューに応じた、という記事を読んでいたら、ケリー国務長官が「いさぎよく帰国して裁きを受けよ」と呼びかけた、というくだりがあった。そこに出てきた man up という表現を取り上げたい。
ロシアに亡命しているスノーデン氏へのインタビューはアメリカのNBCテレビが行なったもので、以下は「ワシントン・ポスト」紙のネット記事から。

この "man up" は、「決めゼリフ」とケリー国務長官が意識して使ったのかはわからないが、ウェブの記事を見ると、見出しに取っている記事がいくつもあった。上記「ワシントン・ポスト」も、国務長官の発言そのものについて伝えるものはそうなっている。

Wikipedia を見たら、アメリカでは "Man Up!" というタイトルのシットコムが2011年に放送されていたことを知った。番組は確かに "man up" に沿った内容だったようだ。
- The series revolves around the lives of three guys with "questionable childish behavior and lifestyles" who decide it's time to do the one thing they had "forgotten" to do: act like "real men". But they need to "grow up" a little before that can happen, even at their age.
