takeaway 「覚えておきたいポイント」「学ぶべき教訓」 [辞書に載っていない表現]
“史上最低“ともいわれるアメリカ大統領選挙の投票日がいよいよ迫ってきた。少し前に、選挙戦を素材に単語や表現を立て続けに取り上げたが、書こうと思って実例をメモしていた takeaway が放ったらかしになっていたのに気づいたので、落穂拾いとしたい。
「テイクアウェイ」は、「テイクアウト」同様ファストフードなどの「お持ち帰り」として日本語にもなりつつあるのではないかと思うが、大統領選挙などの記事で目にする takeaway は、食べ物ではなく情報や考え方を持っていくことになる（なお「持ち帰り」の意味での takeaway はイギリス英語で、アメリカでは takeout が普通のようである）。
下記は、クリントン候補とトランプ候補のTV討論で何がポイントだったかについてのウォール・ストリート・ジャーナル」紙の記事から引用したものだが、同じようなタイトルや書き方をしている記事は他にいくつも見つけることができる。

トランプ候補のスキャンダルで逃げ切りかと思われたクリントン候補だが、私用メールの捜査再開が決まり再び混沌としてきた大統領選挙、結果はどうなるだろうか。
