harmonious cacophony （パラリンピックが閉幕） [日本のニュース]
私にとってパラリンピックは、ある意味オリンピックよりも強い印象を残し、日本で開催されて本当によかったと思える大会となった。
平日は通勤しての仕事があるので、主に帰宅後、夜間の生中継や振り返りの放送を見たが、障害のある選手たちの活躍は、月並みな形容詞だが「凄い」としか言いようがなかった。
閉会式のコンセプトは "Harmonious Cacophony" と銘打たれていた。cacophony は「不協和音」とか「耳障りな音」という意味である。これに harmonious という相反する語がついているので、矛盾語法 oxymoron （→こちら）のひとつといえると思う。
このコンセプトは（国際大会とはいえ自国での開催なので、日本語版も作ってほしかったが）公式発表では次にように説明されていた。
- それは、パラリンピックから影響を受けた、
「違いが輝く」世界。
多様な身体、ユニークなテクノロジー、様々な素材。
それぞれが、混ざり合って1色になるのではなく、
「らしさ」を発揮した状態でカラフルに合わさります。
一見不協和音になりそうな状態から生まれる、新しい調和。
違いがあることで対立が生じるのではなく、
新たな未来が生まれていきます。

東京オリンピック・パラリンピックは、コロナ禍という試練を考えにいれてもなお、運営面で数々の問題があったことは否定できまい。
しかし、パラリンピックの選手たちの活躍を通して、人間は困難に挑戦して大きなことを成し遂げることができる凄い存在なのだということを目に見える形で実感することができた。これはパラリンピックの自国開催という機会があってこそだったと思う。
その閉会式は、開会式と同様たいへん好感が持てるもので、今回のパラリンピック全体を象徴するものだったと言えるのではないだろうか。そして商業化し純粋さを失ってしまったかのようなオリンピックよりも、より本来の姿、原点を示していたように感じた。
